Filtronic Sigtek Announces New Protocol Analyzer Interface for
the ST-260 DOCSIS RF Tracer
Columbia, MD December 04, 2002 Filtronic Sigtek (www.sigtek.com),
a leading designer and manufacturer of broadband and wireless
communications products, today announced a new interface for its
ST-260 DOCSIS RF Tracer and Protocol Analyzer. The new interface
allows the DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface
Specification) based protocol and application layer data to be
viewed using the popular Ethereal (www.ethereal.com)
Network Protocol Analyzer. The ST-260 is currently used by
chipset, equipment manufacturers, and system operators for DOCSIS
testing and deployment. The new interface allows system providers
visibility into the DOCSIS based protocol, application, and
security layers of hybrid-fiber coaxial (HFC) based communication
networks.
The ST-260 enables functional analysis of the radio frequency (RF)
upstream and downstream DOCSIS based communication protocols. The
ST-260 demodulates the RF upstream and downstream signals on HFC
networks, and then dissects the DOCSIS-based protocol and
management sessions. This enables equipment manufacturers and
service providers to monitor and analyze real-time data
communications on existing HFC networks and in test systems. The
ST-260 is a passive RF/data sniffer that does not interfere with
upstream or downstream communications. The product is used by
DOCSIS chipset, DOCSIS equipment manufacturers and CATV Multiple
System Operators (MSOs) for validating, testing and monitoring
DOCSIS-based communications. The ST-260 is mounted in a 2RU rack
mount chassis, which can be used locally in laboratory test
environments or deployed in HFC hubs/headends and monitored
remotely over existing local area networks.
The ST-260 currently supports DOCSIS and Euro-DOCSIS based 1.0 and
1.1 specifications. Development is underway for a DOCSIS based 2.0
test system, available spring 2003.
Ethereal is a free protocol analyzer for Unix and Windows. It
allows the user to examine data from a live network or from a
capture file on disk. You can interactively browse the capture
data, viewing summary and detail information for each packet.
Ethereal has several powerful features, including a rich display
filter language and the ability to view the reconstructed stream
of a TCP session. Ethereal is also capable of analyzing
DOCSIS-based MAC layer traffic, providing powerful insight into
SYNC, MAP, UCD, RNGRSP, REGRSP,UCCREQ and BPI/BPI+ message
sessions.
US Pricing and Availability
The Filtronic Sigtek ST-260B DOCSIS RF Tracer and protocol
analyzer is priced starting at $39,500. The ST-260 File Processor
software upgrade with the Ethereal port utility is available as a
free download from our website.
